Jacques Prévert (4.2.1900–11.4.1977) was a French poet and screenwriter, whose poems remain very popular to this day particularly in the French-speaking world. His words have been turned into many well-known songs, such as “Autumn leaves” (Les feuilles mortes). Jacques Prévert is also considered as one of the most influential French screenwriters, whose films include classics such as Children of Paradise (Les enfants du paradis, 1945) and Port of Shadows (Le Quai des brumes, 1938). The cinema Orion in Helsinki will screen a series of his films from November 2nd 2016 until January 8th 2017.
In October one of the most important works by Prévert, the poetry collection “Paroles” was finally translated into Finnish by essayist Antti Nylén. He will discuss his work on November 15th at 7.10pm at the cinema Orion before the screening of Marcel Carné’s film Les visiteurs du soir, written by Jacques Prévert.
