In her novel Un bel avenir the French playwright and novelist Véronique Olmi brings the reader to the heart of the Parisian theatre world, with its game of seduction, its lies, its jealousy. Two women, Clara, a journalist, and Elisabeth, an actress, meet at a premiere and become friends. Both women are facing difficult times in their life and together it is easier for them.
The novel reminds of a theatre play by its structure, the dialogues and the scenes are extremely vivid. The characters have strong feelings and the reader can very easily identify to them. In all, it’s a great reading experience!
Olmi’s last novel, Bakhita, has been nominated for the Goncourt and the Fémina literary prizes this year.
