The French Institute is proud to announce that the «World Gender: Cultural and Political Translations of Gender and Gender Studies” Groupement de Recherche International (GDRI) has been accepted as an excellence project by the CNRS (National Centre for Scientific Research), notably as a result of our initiative and support. With institutional partners such as the University of Helsinki and the CNRS in Paris, this research group aims at better understanding the ideas and concepts revolving around “gender” (including sexuality and feminism), as well as analyzing the understanding of the notion of gender in different social, political and cultural contexts, and how they impact the development of gender studies. To do so, the group will base its research on the notion of cultural tradition, in order to place the data in a precise context and draw away from universalizing theories. This approach will allow to grasp the nuances of the notion of gender according to a political and cultural context and to the language.
The cultural perimeter that will be studied by this international research group between 2018 and 2021 includes Finland, France, Spain, Morocco, the United States and the United Kingdom.
