French Film of the Month: Hiroshima, mon amour
An Oscar-nominated, deeply moving love story that made director Alain Resnais a leading figure of the French New Wave.
This autumn, the French Film of the Month series, presented by Cinema Orion and the French Institute, puts the spotlight on the French New Wave (Nouvelle Vague) and the films it has inspired.
After a tight public vote on Instagram, Alain Resnais’s classic Hiroshima, mon amour (1959) was chosen as November’s French film. Written by Marguerite Duras, you can enjoy the screening at Cinema Orion on November 10th at 7:30 pm.
Synopsis: A French actress (Emmanuelle Riva) and a Japanese architect (Eiji Okada) meet in Hiroshima. Over the course of a single night, a passionate flame is lit between the lovers as they open up their lives to each other. However, their story will vanish in history: they cannot stay, but they cannot leave each other either.
Tickets are available on the Cinema Orion website (€12.50). At the screening, you can also pick up products from the New Wave collection, such as Nouvelle Vague caps and mineral water.
