Crip Ciné is the new spring edition of the Espoo Ciné Festival. It features films that depict the lives of people with disabilities, as well as works by disabled filmmakers who seek to challenge the stereotypes that surround them.
In addition to its main program, Crip Ciné also offers off-site screenings, one of which will take place at the French Institute of Finland on May 8th from 5 to 7 PM. On this occasion, you’ll be able to watch three touching French short films:
“L’éclosion” (Audrey Sangla, 2022)
Fresh out of prison after 27 years, Solange, who is deaf, moves into a small apartment. At 67, she must find her place in a still-stigmatizing society whose rules she no longer knows. Will she be able to rebuild her freedom by overcoming her double sentence?
“Les petits monstres” (Pablo Léridon, 2024)
This morning, Erwan, a visually impaired middle schooler, can’t wait to get to school and confess his love to Agathe. But as always, he has to share the school van with David, a clingy classmate in a wheelchair. When David does everything he can to delay their arrival, war is declared.
“Les Grandes vacances” (Valentine Cadic, 2022)
Blandine is spending her vacation alone in a small campsite at the foot of the mountains. She quickly finds herself overwhelmed by the noise, the crowds, and the rain she was trying to escape for the summer. By the lake, Blandine meets Helio, a young local journalist.
The event will be opened by the director of Espoo Ciné, Tytti Rantanen.
Admission is free with reservation. To ensure everyone’s comfort, we kindly ask you to arrive at 5 PM. You are then welcome to stay for one, two, or all three short films – at your own pace!
