As part of the LUX Festival, the French Institute of Finland will host two works, including one by French artist Pascal Lièvre. In his video creation, Dreaming the Dark in Finland, he explores the visibility and invisibility of feminists throughout history. By staging the names of 41 pioneering feminists—written and then erased on black sand—the artist pays tribute to these Finnish women, whom he views as major figures in Western feminism.
But what is the concrete legacy of Finland’s first feminists, and how does it connect to feminism today? And what role can art play in the combat for equality?
To shed light on these questions, we are inviting four speakers to take part in a roundtable dedicated to the legacy of the first wave of feminism in Finland.
