February’s French film follows 16-year-old Suzanne as she embarks on a sexual rebellion in order to gain independence from her authoritarian yet respected father. The film, which won the César Award for Best Film in 1984, was directed by Maurice Pialat and is considered one of the highlights of 1980s French cinema.
Synopsis: Suzanne is sixteen. She is discovering that while loving is difficult, sleeping around is easy—even with men she doesn’t care for. For her, pleasure is nothing more than a way to keep her from dying. She lives her life like a wild animal, defined by her miniskirts and messy hair. With her hard stare and her pout, she radiates nothing but violence.
