Design in Dialogue – From the Gobelins to Aalto celebrates the coming together of traditional French craftsmanship and contemporary design innovation. The exhibition features works by young French designers currently studying at Aalto University, alongside Finnish designer Jaana Reinikainen, whose rug Trésor was commissioned by the prestigious Mobilier National for the Élysée Palace and woven by skilled artisans at the Gobelins Manufactory in Paris.
The exhibition will fill the French Institute’s new, bright space on Tehtaankatu with a variety of unique objects, including lamps, a beehive, stools, vases, and many more. This exhibition pays tribute to craftsmanship and to a new generation of designers, perfectly in tune with the Helsinki Design Week’s theme: Celebration.
The opening event will take place on September 11 at 5 PM at the French Institute. Entry is free, with registration required. The opening will be held in French, but the exhibition will be available in both French and Finnish during the Institute’s opening hours, until November 11.
