As part of the Guarding the Baltic Sea project, we warmly invite you to the conference “Voices for the Baltic Sea: Science, Art and Action” on September 2 at the Finnish-Swedish Cultural Centre in Hanasaari. This event will bring together scientists, artists, and policymakers to discuss the challenges facing the Baltic Sea and to explore concrete pathways for change.

Despite significant progress —such as reduced sulfur emissions and a partial decrease in nutrient inputs—the Baltic Sea ecosystem remains under threat from eutrophication, plastic pollution, warming waters, and overfishing.

As all solid policies must be grounded in scientific rigor and gain public support, the conference explores the synergies between science and the emotional power of the arts—helping data reach beyond expert circles and inspiring action for the Baltic Sea.

On the program: talks by scientists, artists, and policymakers, an artistic performance, and a roundtable discussion to identify concrete courses of action.

The conference will be held in English. Free admission upon registration.
