You can now apply to the French-Finnish Maupertuis program 2026!

Interested in carrying out a mobility and research project between France and Finland? Apply for the Maupertuis Program by September 22, 2025!

Pierre Louis Moreau de Maupertuis was a French mathematician, philosopher, and man of letters. He made a successful expedition to Lapland to determine the shape of the Earth.

Each year, the French Institute in Finland, the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research and the Finnish Society for Sciences and Letters organize the Maupertuis program to initiate and strengthen bilateral cooperation in science, innovation and higher education. The call for projects is open to all disciplines.

Two sub-calls are open:

  1. Researcher Short Mobility (RSM)
In order to initiate or strengthen cooperation in science, innovation and higher education on all disciplines, this sub-call allows selected young or confirmed researchers from Finland and France (both ways) to visit their counterparts for a short period from a few days up to a few weeks.
We encourage especially doctoral students and young researchers to apply for the RSM.
Grants will range from 1 200 to 2 400 euros according to the duration of the mobility and will cover travel, accommodation and living expenses.
  2. “Higher Education, Research and Innovation” Workshop (ERI-W)
The ERI-W sub-call is aimed at strengthening collaborations between researchers in France and Finland through a workshop of a few days involving several researchers (around 15) that can take place in Finland or in France, in any discipline. The workshop should be focused and concrete. The format of the workshop can be multilateral instead of bilateral, especially in view of a future Horizon Europe or ERASMUS+ application.
Grants will amount of up to 6 000 euros.

Grant Modalities

Mobilities and workshops should be planned to take place between March and December 15, 2026. It is also possible to hold them in 2027 if relevant.

Applications will be reviewed by both Finland and France. The selection will follow the recommendation of a joint committee comprised of representatives of the funding organizations. Selection outcomes will be forwarded to the applicants by February 2026.
